Robert Mapplethorpe Curated by Sofia Coppola

Following the footsteps of Cindy Sherman (for the Sean Kelly Gallery, New York in 2003) and David Hockney (presented at Alison Jacques Gallery, London in 2005), Sofia Coppola has curated her selection of images taken from The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation. The exhibition is a far cry from the S&M imagery Mapplethorpe became famed for, instead it leans towards the delicate contemplations of flora, fauna and empowered women (notably not dissimilar to Coppola's own stylistics and narrative subjects). These rarely seen photographs add an unexplored, almost unknown side of the artist. I just wish I could see it in its entirety.

This makes me want to go on holiday... perhaps next year. That would be three years since my last one, what a depressing thought?!

Absolutely GORRRGEOUS. I noticed there's not much velvet around this year, unusual for the festive season. I've been searching high and low for a bright blue velvet shirt like this...
