Peggy Guggenheim

The iconic art collector has long been a fascination of mine. From writing my dissertation on her played down influence on Jackson Pollock to her collection in Venice, in which, along with the 2007 Biennale, became the saviours of my sanity during the three months I lived there. There's only so many churches I can enthuse over.

It appears that fashion too has taken an interest in the somewhat eccentrically dressed, wild spirited character. POP magazine has dedicated the current issue to her...

Karl Lagerfeld's 2009 shoot for US Harpers Bazaar sees Lara Stone dripping in Guggenheim-esq glamour.

A nod towards Guggenheim was evident in last year's Chanel Cruise Collection as well as this Spring's Milly catwalks...

I love it. This vintage treasure was found by the eagle eyes of Hannah P and Sam.

However, the slaggy girls of Guildford didn't care for the look; it triggered a number of laughs, stares and snide comments. I guess a lace blouse and mid-length skirt isn't the usual attire compared to the uniform of bandeau top and wet look leggings. OUT. OF. PLACE .

Vintage Fair

 

Hollie and I did the vintage fair for Motel once again today. Sadly it was nowhere near as successful as last time but on the plus side I found myself some absolute bargains...

Two vintage 70s dresses (to add to my collection) and a bright pea green swing jacket. Lovely stuff.

Speaking of fall, I came a CROPPER on Park St today with an elaborate 180 degree descent onto the pavement; the passing traffic got an eye-full. Miraculously I came away rather unscathed.

River Island has its moments. The Chelsea Girl range is a highlight as it looks back to the designs of the 60s, 70s and 80s for inspiration. I wasn't aware until today that I had a couple of vintage Chelsea Girl pieces.

My new vintage late 60s turban (*bit of a paradox there). Isn't it GREAT? I look pretty spesh in it. Everyone laughs. But I don't care because it's just so GOOD.

Elephant Graveyard

An old school friend, Ellie, better know as Bett Norris, has a piece in this exhibition. It's a beautiful, intricate portrayal of influential and seemingly androgenous men and women of the 20th century. My lack of photography skills certainly haven't done it justice though.

Finally I have seen it. I always wanted to be a ballerina; I knew you had to put a lot in to it and that it's a very controlled, disciplined art but it's really not worth losing your mind over. Go on, go out for a few drinks.
