'Muta' is the second of four short films by notable international female directors as a response to Miu Miu's seasonal campaigns. Lucrecia Martel, in my opinion, creates a much more epic, cryptic take on the world of femininity than her predecessor Zoe Cassavetes and 'The Powder Room', which ultimately falls to the stereotype of the female microcosm and the rituals carried out within... BORING.
Martel's title paradoxically means both mute and transformation, and throughout we see this played out in front of us. Though the faces of the insect-like females are obscured, muted even, we see them preparing for a gradual, very bizarre metamorphosis - whilst obviously being absolutely gorgeous in this Autumn's collection.
